Wing passes to the high post (elbow), then cuts off the high post player toward the rim. Classic off-ball action — used in the UCLA offence and copied across every level since the 1960s.
A simple, beautiful way to teach reading screens.
• Pass with intent — sharp two-handed chest pass
• Read the defender's position before cutting
• Brush shoulder-to-shoulder past the screener
• Sprint after the cut — don't drift
• High-post player turns to face — looks for the cut, then resets
Add a defender on the cutter — the high post must read whether to dump down or pop. Reverse the action — opposite wing back-cuts. Combine with a flare screen the other side.
